Antenatal

Antenatal Classes

Our midwife led antenatal classes, held between Wimborne and Verwood, have been carefully designed to support you through pregnancy and birth.  We recommend attending these sessions during the month you are 30 to 36 weeks pregnant. This means you are likely to be attending with people who are expecting a baby around the same time as you, and you can get the most out of the sessions. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Session 1 - The Third and Fourth Trimester and the Introduction to Matrescence

  • Third trimester expectations including common ailments and pelvic floor muscle exercises

  • Fourth trimester expectations including emotional, physical and hormonal changes

  • Introduction to the term 'matrescence'; including managing expectations, changing relationships and the social transition to becoming a mother

Session 2 - Labour and Birth

  • Signs and stages of labour

  • Pain relief options in labour

  • All modes of birth - vaginal, caesarean, ventouse and forceps

  • Optimal positioning and active birth

Session 3 - Postnatal Transition and Infant Feeding

  • The Golden Hour

  • Safe sleeping and infant crying

  • Feeding options and choices

  • Attachment and baby's brain development

Once you have secured your space, you will receive an email with a more detailed outline of the three sessions.
